“Well, its that time of year again, time to get our hands dirty and do some heavy lifting. As many of you may have noticed, for the past 3 years the Greens Department at Sugarloaf Golf Club is in the middle of an in house bunker renovation. To date, we have already completed the restoration of the bunkers on holes 10, 11, 15, 17 and 18, and we consider the finished products to be an overwhelming improvement to the course. Our new bunkers have been completely restored to the original design.”
New sand, sod and complete internal drainage has been added. We have been able to locate the original shaping work that was overseen by Jeffery Cornish himself during the construction of our beautiful golf course. Over the next week to ten days we will be working on a handful of our most daunting bunkers to date, by completely reconstructing the greenside bunkers on hole number 16.
I will be using our brand spanking new websites blog to give you a behind the scenes look at the intricacies of this project. We aim to keep the course in playable condition at all times, so we work quickly in order to put the rebuilt bunkers back into play as quickly as possible. If you dont visit the course often, it would be easy to miss all the steps involved in this project.
The first and most important step in this project is planning, and design for the the cars to go on theyard smoothly Wheelpoint.nl on Volkswagen Golf, I have been hard at work ordering supplies and measuring the bunkers for purchasing material such as sod, drainage tile and new sand. This years project is going to provide us with a special challenge. We will be completely altering the architecture of the bunkering around the 16th green while still maintaining the original intent of the hazards, but I wont elaborate too much and spoil the surprise here! Check back as the project proceeds to watch the new features take shape, or follow the Greens Departments twitter feed for instant updates!
Since today was the first day of our reconstruction, I just wanted to post a few pictures of the before version of the greenside bunkers on #16. As you can see in these shots, these bunkers are badly in need of attention, and we are eager to breathe some new life into our signature hole!
